It was a chance to prove herself All Evelyn's previous attempts to convince her father that she should have a proper place in the family company were wasted effort. His refusals had made her feel useless. Now he was offering her a compromise. If she could fend for herself for one month on Frere Island, off the Tasmanian coast, she could have a job. It was a nasty shock to find the only other cottage on the island occupied by Dane Balkan, a penniless scientist. Evelyn overreacted--but Dane was one man she couldn't influence.
