In each issue, you’ll find Spot’s newest adventure on page 5. These little stories are a delightful reflection of a preschooler’s world. Whether Spot is outside discovering something new or inside playing with his pal Splinter, he’s a curious, confident, and caring little fellow. This month, he rushes outside, eager to explore and greet everything he finds. But before long, he returns to the safety and comfort of home and breakfast. You can use these stories to help your child explore the world of print. If you point to the words as you read this month’s story, your child may notice that the words good and morning appear again and again. And if you encourage your child to look at the illustration, he or she can probably guess the third word in each sentence. Learning that those black marks on the page represent letters and that words are made up of groups of letters is an important step for emergent readers.
