My nephew, who loves to tell stories about his stuffed shark Vlanche, was visiting recently. He announced that Vlanche had a fever and needed to stay in bed! Just as Vlanche inspires my nephew’s stories, this month’s craft, “Story Starters” (page 34), encourages children to tell imaginary tales. Storytelling gives children the opportunity to be creative and share what they are thinking. And it strengthens their ability to speak in their home language, new language, or a mix of both. This month, have fun listening to lots of stories!A mi sobrino le encanta contar cuentos sobre su tiburón de peluche, Vlanche. Hace poco vino a visitarme y me dijo que Vlanche tenía fiebre y tenía que quedarse en la cama. Así como Vlanche es la inspiración de los cuentos de mi sobrino, la actividad de este mes “Cuenta un cuento” (página 16), ayudará a los niños a inventar sus propios cuentos. Contar cuentos ofrece a los niños la oportunidad de ser creativos y de compartir sus pensamientos. Además, refuerza el lenguaje hablado en su idioma materno, en el segundo idioma o en ambos. ¡Este mes, diviértanse escuchando muchos cuentos!
