Once upon a time, in a town not too far away called Sterling, there lived a little boy named Nicholas. As far back as he could remember - which wasn’t that long ago, really - Nicholas had always wanted to be a knight. He and his friend Myles would talk about all the exciting adventures that a knight could have: pursuing bandits through the forest, jousting upon horseback, and saving princesses from mean ogres (just to name a few). A knight had to be brave and compassionate and trustworthy, and Nicholas was eager to be tested to prove he could be all those things. “But you can’t be a knight,” said Myles one day while the two of them were practicing their sword play. Myles was a prince, and a few days older than Nicholas, so Nicholas looked up to him and respected his opinions. “Why not?” Nicholas asked. “You have to slay a dragon and show the king that you did it by giving him the tail,” Myles replied wisely. Then he added, “But everyone knows that dragons don’t really exist.”
