Magicblox Gone Mobile

March 11, 2011

Magicblox Gone Mobile

It has been a few months since we started mobile development and thanks to the hard work and dedication of my part time engineering team, Anthony, Leslie, Dean, and Eugenie, we were able to pull off a new HTML5 book reader that works on any Apple or Android device such as the iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, Galaxy TAB, Motorola Xoom, Nexus One, and Google TV.

With the iPad 2 being released today, I wanted to let you know where you can get an affordable library of books for your kids. That's right, every book in our library now works on the iPad, and with the horsepower and graphics capabilities of the new iPad2, our books will look even more fabulous than they already are.

The best thing about our new reader is that you don't even have to worry about installing any applications from the app store.  Just open up Magicblox.com, select a book and click Read Me.  The book will just work right from the browser.

This is merely the beginning and a set of base functionality that will enable us to quickly rocket past our previous reader capabilities and support.

Android Devices

Our vision is to create a large kids book library that just works on any device, including Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy TAB and Google TV.  We are happy to announce that Magicblox currently works on these devices, so if you are one of the millions of people who own one, you can start enjoying Magicblox books with your kids from the comfort of your own couch or on the go.  We won't stop here.  Look for the Magicblox library to arrive on more devices soon.

A Little Sneak Peak

October 27, 2010

Have you ever wanted to just try something before you commit to putting your name and email address into a system?  Well, now you can..

A Little SWhat did we fix?

As of last night, anyone can now pick out any book and read the first 10 pages to get a sense of what a digital book is really about.  The site will prompt them to Login or Buy a Library Card to keep reading after they get to the 10th page.

Additionally, when a user chooses to log in, they will be brought right back to the book they started from upon success.  So, if you forget to login before reading a book, don't worry. We've got you covered.

Why did we do this?

Everyone should have a chance to thumb through the first few pages of any book.  This provides even more traditional value for passers by who might be unsure of what the digital book experience is all about.

We also felt it was very important to bring users back to their original destination after logging in to keep the flow of the site seemless and easy to use.

We hope you enjoy our constant evolution as well as the wonderful children's stories in our library.  If you have any feedback, ideas or suggestions about the site, our books, or anything related to Magicblox, please tell us what you think. We're listening!

Magicblox Audio Books

August 29, 2010
Meerkat's Safari Audio Book
Audio books have been the craze over the past 10-15 years.  Now, Magicblox authors can easily turn their books into audio books simply by adding a sound file to their book in the library.  Claudia Graziano has narrated each page of her Meerkat's Safari book and then using Garage Band software on a Macbook, she layered in her safari sound track and page turning queues.  All in all the process was very simple to do, but yet creates a very powerful, interactive experience that kids and parents love.

The Magicblox Reading Experience

August 6, 2010

During our beta period we used a fairly basic web reader, but we will enhance it over time as well as add support for additional devices like the iPad.

Page Turning

The current web reader has a traditional book look and feel with page flip technology.  You can also switch pages by clicking kid friendly blue arrows.

Audio

Each book has the capability of having a single audio file that can be used as background music or a professional narration, turning the book into an audio book.  Don't forget to tell the reader when to turn the page though as the audio and page turning are currently not connected.

Zoom In/Out

Want to get a close-up view on a section of the book you're reading? Double-click on any page and you will zoom in.  Double-click again to zoom back out.

Close

When you're finished reading the book, you can click Close button or just close the browser window the reader is loaded in.
